A 1991 Home?
MLS forwarded by Selling Agent stated 1991 home, vinyl sheathing, built on crawl, typical of 98% of the inspections we do around here. I noticed the vent stacks were….lead. Got under the house and saw old cast iron pipes and silver, cloth covered wiring. Luckily, the dear old home seller was there, a kind old gentleman in his late 70’s . I said, “Sir, I have every indication looking at the systems installed on this house to surmise this home wasn’t built in 1991”. He replied, “It’s not a 1991 home, the 1991 home burned down and I moved this house here”.
Slightly not quite sure what to say, I said, “Thank you, you really did help me in reinforcing what I was finding” to which he quickly replied, “Well, you should treat everything as 1991 stuff, it does date to that, you know”. My client did not, obviously, buy the home, but I knew I had more than done my job.
