What kind of format is the report? Narrative? Checklist?
HomeGauge is not a narrative or checklist style report. Be sure to read Narrative versus Checklist versus HomeGauge to see where we feel HomeGauge fits in. Also view the sample reports to see for yourself the style of a HomeGauge report.

Why is your software more than some of the others that are $200 or even $99?
There are many things to consider when buying software other than price, such as technical support, upgrades, user community, and more. They all add up to what is called the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). If you can purchase the most important component of your inspection company (report software) for less than 4 inspections then the difference in price between $99 and $999 is minimal. 4 inspections and its paid for, with the average inspection $250.

Compare features, ease of use and the ability to modify or change your template. Support and the number of users, the number of employees the software company has and where are they going in the future? These considerations can cost you a lot more than saving a few hundred bucks at purchase if you choose another software than HomeGauge.

Do I have to use a Tablet PC ?
No. The software will run on any Windows laptop or computer XP, Vista, or Windows 7. But we think a tablet is better than a laptop for inputting in the field. A laptop and Pocket PC is cheaper and may be a better alternative to buying a tablet, especially if you already own a laptop. Buy a Pocket PC for less than $500 and you are set.

Do I have to be a computer expert to use this software?
No. HomeGauge Inspection Software was designed to be easy to use for the novice but can at the same time satisfy the power user. You do not need knowledge of MS Word or any other database product. It is quick and easy and less time to get up and running if you watch our Tours.

What if I don't want to use some of the Inspection items you have on the report?
You have the ability to change the wording of the item, add new items, delete items to whatever you would like.You can change anything including the sections, categories, discoveries, styles and materials, the names of rooms, the number of rooms, column headers...everything. Tours.

Why is the HomeGauge report created in HTML code instead of Microsoft Word or ".doc " program like most inspection software?
HTML is a code that the internet or web can read. Unlike Word, HTML is ready to view as soon as you upload it to the web. Your report is just like a web page which means it is a lot easier to view.Your buyer or agent does not have to use a PDF viewer in order to view the report. This separates HomeGauge from the rest alone. It is not complicated and does not require waiting time for your buyers or agents to get their report. The most used feature of Word is the spell checker and HomeGauge has one built in.

Can I email my reports as a big bulky and slow PDF instead of uploading them?
Yes you can, but why be the same as your competitor? There are many reasons for uploading versus sending them an attachment. Number one is to brand your company's name by having them come to your website to pick up the report. Please read our Email vs Upload for the full story.

Is this software approved or certified by ASHI, NAHI or InterNACHI ?
InterNACHI has their own HomeGauge version InterNACHIGauge which comes with its own templates that follow the InterNACHI SOP's.

NAHI has their own HomeGauge version that includes their SOP NAHIGauge.

Currently, ASHI does not approve or certify any reporting system or report software. (Although some software companies market claims that sound like it).These orgs have "Standards of Practice" (SOP) that a home inspector must follow and our software and the included report template allows the home inspector to meet or exceeds those standards. hint: our System By System (single summary) template meets or exceeds the ASHI SOP. Can I move my comments from my old software into HomeGauge?
If you are using 3D or PV software we have an easy tool that extracts your comments and places them in your HG version. You can try this by installing the HomeGauge trial version and then come back here and use this tool.
