Accept credit cards online for your inspection business

Get more inspections and get paid faster! If you get just one more inspection because you accept credit cards, then it will easily pay for itself. Everyone hates being a bill collector. You can make it easier to collect payment with credit cards. You can collect before the inspection and never wait for closing again.

How does it work?

You can use the merchant account in the different ways below.

What you will need to accept credit cards through HomeGauge:

  1. A merchant account. This is where the client's money goes and then it is transferred to your bank account. This must be a "Card not present merchant account" or "internet" type of account.
  2. A Payment gateway. This is the service that takes the credit card off of the Internet and processes the transaction in the normal processing route. The payment gateway that HomeGauge supports is Authorize.Net.

HomeGauge can help you get both of these, see below.

If you do not want to take advantage of the "Force Payment" feature, you can get your credit card service at wherever you desire. If you do want to use the "Force Payment" feature you must use HomeGauge Services and use a payment gateway called "Authorize.net". Then choose your merchant account. They currently have over 5000 merchants that you can sign up with. In addition to a percentage of amount billed to card, each typically charges a monthly fee, cancellation fee, early termination fee so be sure and read the fine print of "Terms of Service" with whomever you decide to use. More info here

Why don't we use PayPal?
PayPal is not a bank. They can freeze your money for whatever reason they want.
PayPal limits your withdrawals to $500 a month without positive feedback.
PayPal is good for selling things, but is not oriented or practical for business use.

For "homecritiquepi" - We use First Merchant as well. I went round and round with them trying to explain that our website is an informational website and that our clients pay through HomeGuage. This will get you nowhere. What DOES work is calling the secret (non-published) TrustWave support line. It is: 1-800-210-1173. Have your merchant number handy, explain that you do not process credit cards but rather contract with HomeGauge and, if you've completed the first step of compliance (the questionnaire), they can click a "magic" button and within 24 hours, you can download your compliant seal. Make sure First Merchant knows you are compliant. Good luck! Aug 13, 2009 12:19 PM

I use First National Merchant as my CC bank. They want to know if you are PCI compliant. Also, can you help me be compliant as the info they want is very confusing. Jul 16, 2009 11:28 AM

If you use Authorize.net as your payment gateway for your QuickBooks Merchant Services, then the answer is yes. From a quick online search, it appears that they do support that, but you will need to contact them to verify it. Generally, any inspector that uses HG Services and has a merchant account using Authorize.net as the payment gateway, can use HG's force payment feature. Authorize.net is one of the most popular payment gateways online and most merchant account providers support it. Jun 5, 2009 1:27 PM
