Inspection Software Upgrades
Upgrades are handled differently by different companies. The best way to know that your software company cares, is if they upgrade often and if the upgrades are truly improvements. What are the upgrades. Are they just fixes or are they also some feature changes or improvements?
HomeGauge continually improves the software through upgrades usually several times a year.
Whole number upgrades versus decimal number upgrades. In the Nerd world, if a software company makes a major change and it is an improvement it deserves a whole number (i.e. Version 3, Version 4). If it is just small improvements (and bug fixes) it is usually a decimal number i.e. Version 4.1, Version 4.2 The problem is that some companies don't adhere to that rule and will increase the whole number to appear to be more advanced than his competitor, or if he wants to charge customers for an upgrade sooner than later. So, when someone announces a whole number upgrade, then their needs to be a major change in the software.
HomeGauge version 4 versus competitor version 10 : Just because our competitor has a higher number does not mean the software is more advanced or better at all. Some competitors will fix a bunch of bugs and call it a whole number upgrade when it really deserved a decimal instead.
HomeGauge believes that whole number upgrades are for big changes and small features are decimal upgrades. That is why since 2001 HomeGauge upgrades have made it only to Version 4 and not a version 10 or 11 yet we have consistently had several upgrades each year.
