What version of Windows do I need?
HomeGauge will run on Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP. HomeGauge will not run on Windows RT.

Can I run HomeGauge on a Netbook style computer?
Yes, you can run HomeGauge on a Netbook style computer running Windows (not RT).

How do I use my digital camera?
Most new cameras that connect using a USB cable are "storage class" or "auto connect". If your camera connects using a USB cable then try this steps to determine if yours will auto connect.

  1. Turn your computer on with the camera disconnected from your computer
  2. Double click on "My Computer" on your desktop - you should see a list of disk drives on your computer like "Local Disk (c:)".
  3. Plug the USB camera in to the computer
  4. Look back at the "My Computer" window in a few seconds.
  5. Did a new disk drive show up? Like "Removable Disk (d:)".
  6. If so then you can add pictures to your report in HomeGauge by clicking on where you want a picture then selecting "Folder Picture Selection"
  7. Select the folder on the e: disk containing the pictures. You may have to pick sub folders and they are usually called names that do not make sense. On the Kodak 4900 the folder is d:\DCIM\4900.
  8. Click the "Use Picture Now" to insert the picture.
  9. The next time you select the "Folder Picture Selection" option it will remember the folder you selected the first time

An alternate way to get the pictures to your computer that some inspectors prefer is to use a picture memory card to PCMCIA adaptor. Using this method you take the memory card out of the camera and using a PCMCIA adaptor you can plug the card into your laptop and use similar steps as above. Also, some computer models such as the Fujitsu Tablet PC have memory card readers built in which will also create their own removable drive on your computer.

We plan on having a full beta test soon. We'll do that as soon as we can no longer track down bugs internally. We still are finding a few minor bugs here and there. It will be released after the full beta test is finished and any additional bugs are fixed. We're hoping this won't be too much longer. We are anxious to get this done and out to everyone. Apple maintains firm control over its ecosystem, and only allows installs of software through their store. They have always been very heavy handed with this, and there isn't anything we can do about that. (Android is much more friendly in this regard.) The only way around it as far as I know is to jailbreak phones, and we aren't going to support that. Jan 31, 2014 10:24 AM

An iOS version is in the works, but we can't specify when we'll have this ready yet. We're not sure if it will be this year. Meanwhile, the Android version works great and getting an inexpensive Android device can save you time and money today! Apr 23, 2012 9:37 AM

Yes, HomeGauge is currently working on software for the Android platform and will move on to the iPad after that. The first release will require a Windows PC to complete the report. Nov 22, 2011 9:31 AM

Will HomeGauge ever be designed to run on an iPad or Android tablet? I love your software and have been an avid user. But I must say I am starting to seriously consider other software companies that do offer it. I know I am not alone. You should find no difference in using HomeGauge with either Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional. The differences of those 2 versions won't affect you in using HomeGauge. The main differences are that Professional includes an XP mode, network domains, and backing up onto a network. Mar 12, 2010 11:25 AM

On the website, you can remove users from the report. If you mean in the software, just add in the correct name and email address, then click the link to create a new username. You can assign that new username to the report online or if you upload it, it will be automatically assigned to the uploaded report. Aug 7, 2009 10:25 AM
