Tips for running HomeGauge home inspection software on Netbooks
We have tested HomeGauge on a few of the current Netbooks running Windows 7 and it runs well. Netbooks are appealing because of their low cost, compact size, and (often) long battery life. The downsides to Netbooks are that the screens are small, so there is some extra scrolling required, the processors are slower than laptops/tablets, and they generally have less RAM. So, while HomeGauge will run well on them, they may be a little bit slower to use than a regular laptop. Below are some tips to help you get the most out of running HomeGauge on a Netbook style computer:
- Auto-Hide Windows Taskbar: To do so, right click on the Taskbar and click "Properties", here you will see a check box for Auto-Hide. Check the box and click "OK".
- Hide HomeGauge Toolbars: To do so, right click beside the Toolbar and uncheck both "Standard" and "Template". If you want to show the toolbars at a smaller size, you can also choose the option to not show the text names under the icons, this reduces the height of them, and you can slide them all onto one row. Remove the names by clicking on "View - Toolbars - Show Text Under Icons".
- Resetting the HomeGauge Panes: To do so, click the "View" Menu and click "Default Pane Layout".
- Adjusting the Inspection Items View: You can adjust how much space is dedicated to showing the comment window or inspection item list by dragging the bar in between them.
Doing the first 3 items will allow you to see all of the prompts and dialogs that HomeGauge displays.
