Understanding home inspector qualifications
State licensed inspectors must follow a "Standards of Practice" (SOP) for their state. Many state's SOPs are derived from national organization's SOP, or require the inspector to belong to an approved national organization. Most, if not all, licensed states or national organizations require inspectors to attend ongoing continuing education classes each year. To know your states current requirements for inspectors, search by state or zip code. Find inspectors local to your area, read about their qualifications and view their sample report(s).
