Qualifications
Joe Funderburk is the owner of Alpha & Omega Home Inspections, LLC.  There are no employees or sub-contractors--you hire me and you get me. I'm a Certified Master Inspector, NC Licensed Home Inspector, SC Licensed Home Inspector, Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Indoor Air Consultant, member of  the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, member of the Piedmont Association of Home Inspectors. I've totaled more than 1100 inspections and completed countless hours of training in more than five years as a full-time home inspector, including NC required annual training. I recently completed building my own 1800 SF house addition.

Experience
Previous careers include four years as an Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Compliance Officer inspecting the construction industry in SC.  OSHA ingrained in me a detective-like mindset, along with thoroughness, documentation and report writing skills that are the main assets I bring to the home inspection industry. While with OSHA, I inspected a major hydro-electric project being built by Duke Power Company, and they hired me. I spent the following eleven years in the electric utility industry with Duke Power in managerial and scientific positions, including Safety Supervisor at nuclear, fossil, and hydro plants, where I was responsible for safety inspections at large-scale construction and maintenance projects in NC & SC. I am currently employed as the Building Official / Code Enforcement Officer for the town of Clover, SC.

Education
My educational background includes two university Bachelor degrees from Clemson University and Winthrop University.

Second inspection with Joe, and he was absolutely wonderful again! He does a great job and is very thorough. He points out everything, and lets you know how it ranks on a scale of needs to be addressed right away or if it can be fixed in the future. He explains any questions you may have in very easy to understand terms, and is a generally nice man. Hopefully we will be in this house for years to come, but if we ever need to purchase another home, he will be our inspector!!!

Gauge Attributes

Customers can Gauge service providers on the following 10 attributes. Not all attributes will apply to all service providers.

  1. Punctuality and Timely Completion: No one likes to wait or have large windows of time where service providers "might" get to them. No one likes the job to drag out because of the service provider's other projects or if it becomes apparent that the SP did not plan well.
  2. Workmanship: No one likes shoddy work, shortcuts, or tradesmen who take advantage of the customer's lack of awareness of what is good quality work.
  3. Responsibility: Many home owners do not wear shoes in their home and service providers should wear covers over their shoes when necessary. SP's should not travel into rooms that are not in the work scope. They should not use the toilet without asking. If the SP soils or breaks something, they should try to replace it.
  4. Professionalism: A Professional does not try to add unnecessary work to the contract. Nor do they try to make themselves look good by demeaning their competition or by discussing religion or politics. Professionals stand behind their price and make the experience pleasant with the customer.
  5. Cleans Up Daily: Customers like to know that each day when service providers leave the room, it is in a broom swept condition, meaning nothing laying around loose, dangerous, all cords are rolled up, and trash or debris is contained or removed. SP's should clean up at the end of the job.
  6. Friendly: No one wants to hear service providers' personal problems. The service provider should be pleasant to be around.
  7. Responsive to a Customer's Call: Call backs should be made in the same day and the service provider should do what was promised.
  8. Well Organized: Generally speaking, from start to finish, the process went well, any concerns were addressed or corrected, and the repair or project ended well with everyone satisfied.
  9. Hygiene: The service provider should look clean, smell clean, and wear shoe covers indoors when needed.
  10. Recommended: Would you recommend this individual or company?
