Jim spent 10 months in Texas as an intern with the most prestigious home inspection companies in Fort Worth Texas before becoming licensed in Texas. Jim Breer has been a member in good standing with the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) since 1998.

Rosemary, Jim's wife of 41 years, and Jim are both natives of Central Vermont. They have two sons and now have two wonderful granddaughters. Jim has grown up in construction and his construction career started over 45 years ago. He was the Vice President of a large commercial construction company and vice President of a building specialty coating company, both located in Vermont. Rosemary & Jim have operated J. & R. Builders, Inc., a complete building project company, since 1987. Jim's experience allows him to use his skills wisely and offers him the special ability to find problems. Better Home Inspections was started in 1997. The number of inspections and the continuing education that Jim has completed has improved Jim's ability to discover problems, based on the sheer number and variety of inspections he's satisfactorily performed.

Better Home Inspections proudly offers services to Central Vermont including Montpelier, Barre, Burlington, Waitsfield, Warren, Stowe, St Johnsbury, Eastern New York and Western New Hampshire and beyond.

I work very hard to bring the best home inspection to my customers. I have the knowledge of how a home was built and why some conditions have occurred in a home. I am able to describe item in layman's terms. Discounts for the troops.

Gauge Attributes

Customers can Gauge service providers on the following 10 attributes. Not all attributes will apply to all service providers.

  1. Punctuality and Timely Completion: No one likes to wait or have large windows of time where service providers "might" get to them. No one likes the job to drag out because of the service provider's other projects or if it becomes apparent that the SP did not plan well.
  2. Workmanship: No one likes shoddy work, shortcuts, or tradesmen who take advantage of the customer's lack of awareness of what is good quality work.
  3. Responsibility: Many home owners do not wear shoes in their home and service providers should wear covers over their shoes when necessary. SP's should not travel into rooms that are not in the work scope. They should not use the toilet without asking. If the SP soils or breaks something, they should try to replace it.
  4. Professionalism: A Professional does not try to add unnecessary work to the contract. Nor do they try to make themselves look good by demeaning their competition or by discussing religion or politics. Professionals stand behind their price and make the experience pleasant with the customer.
  5. Cleans Up Daily: Customers like to know that each day when service providers leave the room, it is in a broom swept condition, meaning nothing laying around loose, dangerous, all cords are rolled up, and trash or debris is contained or removed. SP's should clean up at the end of the job.
  6. Friendly: No one wants to hear service providers' personal problems. The service provider should be pleasant to be around.
  7. Responsive to a Customer's Call: Call backs should be made in the same day and the service provider should do what was promised.
  8. Well Organized: Generally speaking, from start to finish, the process went well, any concerns were addressed or corrected, and the repair or project ended well with everyone satisfied.
  9. Hygiene: The service provider should look clean, smell clean, and wear shoe covers indoors when needed.
  10. Recommended: Would you recommend this individual or company?
